We serve smallholder farmers. In everything we do, we place the farmer first. We measure success in our ability to make more farmers more prosperous. We envision a future in which every farm family has the knowledge and means to achieve big harvests, support healthy families, and cultivate rich soil.
Where your support goes
Smallholder farmers living in remote places need support in more than one area. We provide a complete set of services within walking distance of the farmers we serve. Our service bundle includes:
- Financing for farm inputs
- Distribution of seed and fertilizer
- Training on agricultural techniques
- Market facilitation to maximize profits from harvest sales
Farming is the dominant economic activity of the world’s poor. One Acre Fund makes that activity significantly more productive. We are growing as fast as possible to capture an incredible opportunity.
The results
The Barr Foundation is dedicated to enhancing educational and economic opportunities for those living in poverty, with a special focus on environmental sustainability and climate change mitigation. One Acre Fund was initially awarded ~$1 million over 2012-2014 to support crop insurance and sustainable initiatives like solar lights, tree-planting programs, and composting trials in Kenya and Rwanda.
