The fifth edition of the world’s most important event on sustainability in fashion, Copenhagen Fashion Summit, will take place on 11 May 2017 at Copenhagen Concert Hall under the patronage of HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. As a meeting platform for the fashion sector’s decision-makers, leading NGOs, experts, policy-makers and academia, the Summit aims to create a common understanding and gain industry-wide commitment on the most critical issues facing our industry and planet.

Leaders from the fashion sector, NGOs, policy and academia are gathered to partake in the important discussion on how the fashion industry can contribute to a world beyond the next season. The Summit will present a curated programme of keynotes and discussions and deep diving breakout sessions with leading voices who will share their experiences and commitments to inspire future action.

Furthermore, more than 100 top students that are part of the Youth Fashion Summit and 100 academics that are part of Educators Summit from leading international institutions will be gathered to give the next generation’s perspective on tomorrow’s innovations.

Commitment to change
The overarching theme for the 2017 Summit is commitment to change. Thereby setting the ambition high on the outcomes and commitments we aim to raise with the event. Tangible solutions and hands-on knowledge are key to drive the fashion industry towards a more sustainable future, which is why the Summit will present both tangible outcomes and call to action.

A high-level commitment based on the yearly topical focus will be presented at the Summit each year along with a toolbox making it achievable by the vast majority of Summit participants and a broad range of companies globally. Progress on the commitments will be tracked and reported back every year at the Summit to ensure that change is made.

Copenhagen Fashion Week

Every February and August, Copenhagen hosts the Nordic Region's largest fashion event, Copenhagen Fashion Week. As industry movers and shakers get dressed and ready for a week of sartorial extravagance, the runways come alive with a diverse cast of fashion talents — Danish and international, new and established, classy and street. Meanwhile, the trade fairs, CIFF, CIFF KIDS, CIFF Raven and Revolver boast upwards of 1,100 exhibitors representing more than 2,500 international collections in all categories of style.

Scandinavian fashion is known for its unique take on design, which marries modern elegance to playful aesthetics and conceptions of dress. A contemporary approach to fashions both feminine and masculine is expressed in fresh silhouettes, innovative fabrics and sharp colour schemes, all in unsurpassed qualities. These are only a few of the reasons why a large number of international buyers, designers and press attend Copenhagen Fashion Week twice a year. Of course, the other main attraction to see is Copenhagen itself. It's a cosy yet metropolitan harbour city that offers a rich array of design venues, cultural events, shops, cafés, bars and nightlife.

Copenhagen Fashion Week has coordinated the official show schedule since 2006, spanning over three days every season. Over the past seasons, Copenhagen Fashion Week has seen an increased interest from brands seeking admittance to the official show schedule. The show days are the most important and most visible marketing tool of fashion week and that is why it is necessary to sharpen the profile by ensuring a high level of design quality. Otherwise Copenhagen Fashion Week might lose international attention. For this reason, the Copenhagen Fashion Week board of directors decided to introduce the ON and OFF schedules in 2013.

While the two schedules run parallel to each other, their individual profiles and mix of brands ensure a clearer segmentation and profiling of the different shows, making for a more comprehensible guide for the visitors of fashion week.

The On-Schedule represents a mix of newer and more established brands, primarily Scandinavian, that contribute to telling the story of fashion in the Nordic Region. The ON schedule places emphasis on unique design, international appeal, high-end brands, a strong connection to Danish fashion/Copenhagen Fashion Week and show productions of a high quality.

The Off-Schedule represents a mix of clothing brands, children’s wear brands as well as accessory and jewellery brands. The OFF schedule includes up-and-coming designers, brands with a broad audience and finally brands with a more commercial profile. This is also where design school shows, award shows and smaller, alternative show productions are placed.
